FUNDAMENTALS of DESIGN RELIABILITY
* research works in the field of reliability of the structures is focused on:
* determination of optimum dementions of concrete, stone, steel and wooden structures;
* analysis of inaccuracies of computational models;
* determination of performances and computation magnitudes of loadings;
* detailed determination of factors, which are taken into
account for computation of structures by finite elements method;
* development of the Ukrainian normative documents, which concern
computational methods of loadings and structure in combination with european standards.

BUILDING STRUCTURES
The activity of NIISK in field of building structures, basically, are concentrated on study of concrete, reinforced concrete, stone, steel and partially wooden structures.
Research works of the institute in field of concrete and reinforced concrete structures directed on solution of empirical and analytical problems concerning methods of computations with observance of plastic deformations, cracks and redistribution of internal forces. The Ukrainian norms of designing are coordinated with eurocodes and also the recommended principles of introduction of the European standards in building practice of Ukraine are provided. The experimental check of theoretical development of models and full-scale samples is executed.
The important element in research work of the institute is diagnostics and
evaluation of reliability of strengthened structures: *
the reasons which result in failures and accidents due to destruction
of buildings and methods of their avoiding are studied; * a total engineering analysis of conditions of industrial, civil, and residential buildings and engineering structures is
executed: (silos, bunkers, tanks, chimneys etc.); * the important technical problems in association with the factors of influence of environment, for example, dynamic effects, irregular settlings,
corrosion, overloading and radiological effects are considered.
Concerning wooden structures the institute executes: * research works
on methods of test, development of criterions and requirements
to elements, junctions and fastening details;
* testing of different types of junctions, evaluation of elements and
fastening details.

STRUCTURAL TESTING
NIISK is the greatest centre in Ukraine
in field of experimental short- and long- term researches of building structures and their elements,
materials, products etc. Tests are conducted in laboratory conditions (on models and full-scale samples),
and immediately on buildings and structures, sites of manufacturing of building structures etc.,
including applications of methods of non- destructive monitoring.

SPACE ENCLOSURE STRUCTURES NIISK research in this field concern:
* materials, which are applied in space enclosure structures;
* space enclosure structures of both heavy and light concrete, modular panels, internal and external
walls of industrial, residential and other buildings and structures;

structures of light elements; * windows, doors that are produced of wood,
plastic and metal; * single-layer and multi-storey space
enclosure structures with windows; * partitions,
which are produced with application of different materials.

DYNAMIC TESTS OF BUILDING STRUCTURES
Accredited in the Ukrsepro system the NIISK laboratory
of dynamic testing of building structures resolves the most difficult practical problems
seismic resistance and dynamics of structures basing on applications of experimental
and theoretical methods, in particular: *
determination of actual dynamic characteristics of buildings, structures and soils (basing
on spectral analysis of tool recordings of oscillations);
* space computations of the system "building - basis" against seismic loading ( SNIP
technique for influences, specified for earthquakes accelerograms )
and against dynamic influences of vibration equipment;
*computations of risks of destruction of structures of buildings, built in seismic
regions, with observance of antiseismic measures and for their absence; substantiating
of design measures on seismic of buildings and structures;
*development of passports of buildings with observance of dynamics; evaluation of
conditions of their structures
with the help of non- destructive methods of vibration diagnosis; *development
of automated systems of vibration control and vibration diagnosis of a system "building - basis"
(possesses experience on s and structures of Chernodyl ChNPP); *certification and dynamic
tests of building structures
