In this direction the institute activity is focused on the following:

  • development and design of measures on protection of external and internal sources on objects of civil construction and industrial buildings against noise at their design, operation and reconstruction;
  • protection of dwelling territories, recreation territories against noise using the architectural and planning measures and complex of building and acoustic means including the noise screens;
  • creation of optimal acoustic conditions in premises of special destination (theatre and concert halls, cinema halls, exhibition and conference halls, studios, churches and etc.).

The institute developed DBN В.1.1-31:2013 “Protection of buildings and facilities territories against noise” which states the main requirements to design of construction objects, dwelling territory and recreation territory protection against noise, requirements to permitted levels of noise in residential and public building premises and on dwelling territory, requirements to sound insulation of internal and external enclosure structures of different buildings.

The following documents were developed:

  • DSTU-Н Б В.1.1-32:2013 “Guidelines on design of protection against noise in premises by means of sound absorption and shielding”;
  • DSTU-Н Б.В.1.1 – 33:2013 “Guidelines on calculation and design of protection against noise of residential areas”;
  • DSTU-Н Б.В.1.1 – 34:2013 “Guidelines on sound insulation calculation and design for residential and public building enclosing structures”;
  • DSTU-Н Б.В.1.1-35:2013 “Guidelines on calculation of noise levels in premises and on territories.

The institute is equipped with unique acoustic complex consisting of sound measuring anechoic chamber with volume of 100 m3 (to measure the noise characteristics of noise sources, electroacoustic equipment and other measurements in conditions of free sound field), sound measuring everberating chamber with volume of 200 m3 (to measure the sound absorption characteristics of materials and structures, noise characteristics of machines and equipments), three sound measuring reverberating chambers to measure the sound insulation of enclosure structures (walls, partitions, floors) against air and impact noise and acoustic characteristics of floor structures and characteristics of sound absorption materials.
By its geometric and acoustic characteristics and equipment the testing complex meets the requirements of international and national standards to laboratory testing complexes and provides the acoustic certification and professional testing of building products for all acoustic indications in accordance with the requirements of standards for methods of testing in laboratory and field conditions. The institute has also developed the following documents:

  • DSTU Б В.2.6-85:2009 “Building and facility structures. Enclosure structures sound absorption. Methods of assessment”;
  • DSTU Б В.2.6-86:2009 “Building and facility structures. Enclosure structures sound absorption. Methods of measurement”;
  • DSTU Б В.2.7-183:2009 “Building materials. Sound insulation and sound absorption materials. Methods of testing”.

According to results of laboratory materials and structures acoustic researches the institute develops the books of building structure technical solutions using the testing materials of manufacturers.

Works on building and architectural acoustic, protection against noise are performed by the following departments:

  • Department of building physics and efficient use of resources
  • Laboratory of building and architectural acoustic
